Job description

Besides your daily tasks in the field of CFD analyses and optimisations of our designs, you will shape the CFD integration process together with other specialists. By developing, establishing and implementing working methods and procedures within our engineering scope, you will ensure greater knowledge and understanding of the following CFD subfields:

  • Resistance simulation;
  • Appendage and trim wedge optimisation;
  • Wakefield analysis and optimisation (for propeller design);
  • Hull shape optimisation;
  • Propeller simulation and analysis;
  • Wind climate simulation and analysis;
  • Exhaust and flue gas analysis;
  • Helicopter landing analysis;
  • Specific R&D investigations for which CFD can be used.

Within the project team you are in continuous contact with the Naval Architect to support him/her in providing essential information regarding the ship design. You coordinate the CFD scope across multiple projects and are excellent at planning and prioritising. You also coach a more junior CFD colleague, possibly supervise trainees, maintain contacts with external agencies and contribute to the development agenda. You report to the Pool Manager or Manager Engineering of your department.

Carrying out a wide range of assignments including advice, solutions or design, for which specific knowledge and skills in the specialist field of CFD are required. The focus is on analysing and solving unique issues. To this end, you will gather information, make concrete agreements and report on the findings, and communicate them to all interested parties. You will also draw up a realistic time schedule, set priorities and work on a project basis. You act as a knowledge carrier for CFD, keep this knowledge and expertise up to date, and follow new developments.


  • Relevant professional education at WO level;
  • 4+ years of relevant experience within the ship and yacht building industry;
  • Several years of proven experience with CFD simulations for ship design and CFD software, preferably Star-CCM+ (or FINETM/Marine);
  • Excellent technical command of the English language (requirement) and Dutch language (preference);
  • Knowledge of 3D modelling software, for example NX, is an advantage;
  • Good social and communicative skills;
  • Good planning skills, weighing up the interests of others and being able to get your own message across clearly;
  • A high degree of independence, proactive attitude and analytical thinking skills.

Our client is a leading architectural firm that provides design, engineering and research & development of unique, custom-built superyachts. Approximately 200 professionals work in the following disciplines: Design, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Interior and Exterior.

A team of project leaders takes care of the management of all ongoing projects. They also have a Research & Development department. This gives them all the expertise they need to carry out the entire design and engineering process. 

As a CFD coordinator, you will work for the Naval Architecture department. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a high-tech knowledge area at the heart of our design and engineering process.
